Cheap Shots

TV Pilot
Director: Norm Fassbender
Producer: Kate Holowach

Cheap Shots - part game-show, part improv, part film festival - it's all comedy, and may the best team catch the most buns!

This is film making at its finest. Yes, in the course of 24 minutes, two teams create a scintillating three-scene movie before your very eyes. Characters! Plot! (Sort of!) Big locations? Absolutely - rolled in behind the performers just before action is called. Special Effects? Guaranteed, by a green-screen with random footage. How good is it? Two pretentious film critics critique the high art. But really, how good is it? A live audience votes for the, umm, best. And, befitting such a class act, they vote by hurling buns into fishnets held by the respective director of their favourite movie.

This is all lorded over by the Executive Producer/Host, who supplies a story line/genre for every scene for each team. This half-hour comedy series will feature some of the funniest improv comedians of Western Canada. The pilot was filmed in Edmonton, with John Ullyatt, Belinda Cornish, Wes Borg, Neil Grahn, Donovan Workun, Mark Meer, Stephanie Wolfe, Jacob Banigan, Josh Dean, and Chris Fassbender. In the series, a traveling caravan will move the whole shebang from city to city, providing home team/visiting team dynamics, and showcasing local comic talent across the prairies.

And while the point of the fun is watching performers putting their butts on the line, creating on the fly while being abused the “Executive Producer”, the 'finished' films will be available for viewing on-line.

Ahh… doesn't everybody love a Cheap Shot?
